False Positives

A false positive occurs when a Web site, URL, "infected" file, or email message is incorrectly determined by filtering software to be of an unwanted type. For example, a legitimate email between colleagues might be detected as spam if a job-seeking filter does not distinguish between resume (to start again) and resumé (a summary of work experience).

You can reduce the number of future false positives in the following ways:

  1. Update to the latest pattern file (virus, spam, and so on).

  2. Exempt the item from scanning by adding it to an Approved List.

  3. Report the false positive to Trend Micro.
