Clients are unable to use Windows Update

If you have configured IWSVA to block certain executables, it is possible the change will block Windows Updates or other routine downloads.

For example, if certain extensions have been specified in the Other file types field of the HTTP > HTTP Malware Scan > Policies > [policy name] > Virus Scan Rule or FTP > Scan Policies > [policy name] > Virus Scan Rule page, clients may receive a message such as the following:

No Updates Were Installed.

You can address unwanted blocked files by creating an exception for them, as explained below.

To exempt  Windows Updates Web from scanning:

  1. Click HTTP > URL Access Control > Global Trusted URLs, and make sure that the Web sites for Windows update are included in the Do Not Scan These URL list.  

  2. Select Enable Trusted URLs and click Save.
