Trend Micro recommends that you configure IWSVA to automatically delete your oldest
pattern files to save disk space.
By default, IWSVA will archive the past three pattern files, in addition to the current
file. If ever a pattern file download is corrupt, or contains an unwanted false positive,
you can
Rollback IWSVA to most recent verified version.
Because of the number and variety of Internet threats since 2003, the various pattern
files have grown to over 10MB, cumulatively. Trend Micro released most new pattern
files as an incremental update—only the new data is downloaded. The updates are added to the existing pattern file
and the version changed.
Incremental updates can occur four or more times a week depending on the threat activity.
Full pattern updates are usually only necessary a few times a year. All updates, however,
result in a 10+MB file being added to the disk, so it is important to configure IWSVA
to delete excess pattern files automatically.
