Pattern File Update Notifications Parent topic

Notifications > Pattern File Updates
You can have IWSVA email you or specified others whenever it runs a scheduled update. Update events are written to a log, regardless of the notification configuration.
Notification messages include a Subject only, and can be triggered for any or all of the following events:
  • Successful—the file has been updated and IWSVA is using it
  • Unsuccessful—a scheduled update did not occur; possible reasons:
    • The network connection was unavailable
    • The proxy server settings are incorrect or have changed
    • ActiveUpdate server was busy or did not respond
    • The download was blocked or otherwise failed
    • The downloaded file was corrupted
    • The current file could not be replaced (in use, write protected, etc.)
    • The current file was replaced but there is a problem reading the new file
    • The replacement occurred, but the update is not complete because one or more IWSVA services could not be restarted
  • Not needed—IWSVA checked and found that the file(s) it is currently using are already the most current available
Note
Note
1. Although you can be notified for any or all of the three states, to avoid an abundance of email messages, many administrators choose only to be notified if the update failed and write a subject especially for that situation.
2. To create a notification message that spans more than one line, type "\n" to force the text to the next line. Although the configured notification text still displays in a single-line in the IWSVA Web console. the notification message is displayed in multiple lines in email.
